He's Back . . .

After a second ACL repair and 6 months of rehab
Diesel is finally back in action for the Mt. View Bruins.
Playing on the Varsity, JV and Sophomore teams,
he spends alot of time at the ball park!

Making amazing plays at 3rd base . . .

Killing it at bat . . .

And heating it up on the pitching mound.

In last Friday's game he scored the winning run
in a game that was tied to give the Bruins the win!

Yep----It's good to have #17 back in the game!

Hawaiin Get-Away

After a very long and exceptionally cold winter,
we enjoyed a Hawaiin Get-away recently with
Jeff & Julie on the island of Oahu.
We also went for the marriage of our niece,
Britney Garrett to Jacob Katutu

Our home away from home--
The Marriott Ko Olina resort in Kapolei

Just one word to describe this place---amazing!!

The resort was so great we wanted to just hang out
there at the Lagoon, soak up the sun and drink
our Pina Colada's!

We did venture out to the Aloha Stadium
swap meet which fulfilled our shopping needs

On Wednesday we met up with other family
members and enjoyed snorkeling at
Hanauma Bay

With Gary golf is essential and Hawaii is no
exception. He & Jeff enjoyed their day at Makaha
Valley Counrty Club, another day Gary golfed
at the Ko Olina resort course . . .

. . . but the real "gem" of the trip was this course
on the North Shore at Kahuku (HaHa)

You didn't golf here because of the beautiful fairways
and smooth greens, you only golfed here for the
scenery which you can see in the background!

On Friday we enjoyed the Polynesian Culture Center
in spite of the pouring rain

Our favorite was the village of Samoa

The "Ha" show was great and we had fun
 watching Jacob perform

The Hawaii temple is beautiful and we were
so happy we could be there for the sealing of
Britney & Jacob

Highlights of this trip . . .

The beautiful resort & scenery . . .

Snorkeling with Grandpa . . .

Shaved ice on the North Shore . . .

And being in the temple with people I love.

A little bit of sadness as the sun set on this trip,
but already looking forward to the day we can
return to the island of Aloha!

Sweet "16"

Hard to believe that our "little boy" just
celebrated his 16th birthday !!

Birthday dinner at Los Hermanos,
concert tickets and the famous LeChem
"Dating Survival Kit"

Better than all of that however . . .
the official drivers license!!

2 week-ends and 2 invitations to Preference,
one at Mt View, one at Orem.
He loved that they were girl ask boy dates !

Ordained a Priest by his Dad

Derek is very lucky to have a Dad and 4 older brothers
who are great examples for him to follow. . .
And we are lucky to have such a great "kid"

A Week of Thanksgiving

We were so happy that Jeff & Julie and the kids were
able to spend the week of Thanksgiving with us.
We are "thankful" to be grandparents and love it
when we can all be together!!

Our week was filled with good food and good fun--
These 2 boys played football every minute they
could, "thankfully" no one got hurt!!

These 3 boys enjoyed seeing the Aggie's defeat Idaho
in Logan.  They were "thankful" for warm temperatures!!

On Saturday evening we went up to Salt Lake City,
walked around the new City Creek Center and
then around Temple Square to see the lights.

That made us very "thankful" for our Savior, Jesus Christ

So "thankful" for our family . . .

(And "thankful" for a responsible son, Peter,
who had to miss out because of work.)

One TOUGH Mudder

If there's 1 word we could use to describe Nic it would
be "adventuresome".  So when he told us that he was going
to compete in the Utah "Tough Mudder" with some friends
from BYU-Idaho we were like----Ok--great--have a good time!!

That was until the day before the race when I decided to google
Tough Mudder to find out more about it. I learned it's an event that benefits
the Wounded Warrior Project.  Great, it's for a good cause, but then I read on and
discovered that it is a 12 mile obstacle course designed by British Special Forces.
Some of the obstacles consist of crawling on your belly through mud, jumping into
a tank of ice cold water, scaling 12 foot walls, climbing over man made mountains,
crawling through pipes and my favorite----sprinting through a field of live wires,
some with a 10,000 volt shock.  After reading this I sent a text to Nic asking him
one question------WHY?

The very clean and energized warriors ready to begin
(I might add it was a pretty chilly morning that day)

After their first "mud immersion" they're off!!!

Nic was most concerned about getting his large
6' 3" frame over the walls but he made it with
help from other "mudders".  The course is all about
everyone helping each other make it through.

Jumping into---you guessed it---more mud!

Did I mention that you run about a mile in between each obstacle?
That adds up to a 12 mile run people!!

Yep---this would be those live wires I mentioned.
Nic did admit that their shock was a little more than he had anticipated.

The good news is he lived to tell about it !!

The exhausted but VERY proud "Tough Mudders"
